We are proud of our smartphone policy because:
We implememnted the no-phone policy in 2018 when we noticed an increase in phones coming into school (Year 6 children). Parents were stating that their children were coming to school unaccompanied and therefore they wanted to track them to know they had arrived.
As the headteacher I did a great deal of research around this and felt passionately that the children were in more danger having a phone than not. My feelings have always been that if you are concerned about your child arriving at school then bring them (a phone is not going to keep them safe).
Despite some initial resistance parents have been supportive and we have no issues now, it is accepted as a non-negotiable.
I was told back in 2018 that it was unsustainable and that I would need to capitulate at some point... here we are 8 years later still holding strong and thriving.
